1-99 theft guide
Breaking down doors, accepting money from innocent NPCs and stealing pies from stalls - what more could you want from a skill? Released in May 2002, Thieving has become a popular choice for members of Old School Runescape and is a relatively fast 99. Put your masks on and get ready to steal, because we're not just taking the quickest route to 99 Thieveing. through, but also the most profitable! Feel free to go through the methods in this OSRS theft guide, especially when it comes to the later levels.
Quests
Before we get into the OSRS thief guide, we'd like to mention the importance of questing. The early stages of theft can be quite long and click intensive. So we recommend completing a few quests that provide a fair amount of thief experience to progress through the early stages. Here is the list of all OSRS quests that provide thief experience.
Handy equipment
To get you on your way to stealing, we highly recommend the following items as they offer exceptional benefits.
Shady Necklace
This enchanted opal necklace gives you a 25% chance of not being stunned and damaged when pickpocketing an NPC. This greatly helps you with pickpocketing and speeds up experience percentages. The chain has 10 charges and each charge is consumed every time you are saved from a stun. With simple calculations, the necklace will give you immunity to stun for up to one minute.
Ardougne-mantel 3
You can get these special cloaks after completing an Ardougne diary. The first level, the Ardougne Cloak 1, gives you a 10% chance of successfully stealing from stalls in Ardougne after completing the Ardougne Basic Journals. The second level stacks with the basic journal after completing the medium journals and provides an additional 10% increased chance of being a pickpocket in Ardougne (even if your cloak is not equipped). The third tier stacks on top of the previous one after completing the hard diaries and gives you a 10% higher chance of success pickpocketing in Gielinor (even if you're not equipped). The last level, the Ardougne Cloak 4, does not offer any additional thief perks. These capes can be purchased from Two Pints at the Flying Horse Inn in East Ardougne.
villains
To find villain gear, you'll need to open Rouge's gearboxes, which can be obtained by completing the Rouge's Lair minigame. The complete blush outfit is not only a chic and cool outfit, but also offers a chance to steal an NPC's double loot. We highly recommend this if you want to get into the profitable part of this guide.
leveling guide
From level 1 to 55, the methods for both routes you can choose in Thieving are exactly the same.
Level 1-5 – Pickpocketing for men and women (5,000 experiences per hour)
To begin your thief journey and this OSRS thief guide, start pickpocketing men and women up to level 5. Men and women can be found just about anywhere, but they are plentiful in areas such as Lumbridge and other Edgeville. You're only there for a few minutes, so don't make yourself comfortable.
Quick tip in case of pickpocketing: Go to your settings, go to the "Game Controllers" icon in the top right and select "Hidden" under "NPC Attack Options". This makes pickpocketing much easier, as your default left-click option is to pickpocket, not attack.
Level 5-20 – Pie Stand Steal (10,000 experience per hour)
From level 5 to 20 stems from the cake stand at East Ardougne market. More specifically, you will find the cake stand (also known as the baker's stand) on the east side of the market. To optimally steal them, stand on the side of the market and click away! Once you have a full inventory, turn it in (or put it in the bank) and keep stealing. In the rare event that you are attacked by a guard, you can run away or fight him bravely. Be that as it may, you'll be stealing again soon. The best part is that you'll only be here in about 20 minutes.
Level 20-25 - Stealing the Silk Stand (15,000 experience per hour)
Right next to the pie stalls that would have swiped you from level 5 to 20 is the silk stall where you're from level 20 to level 25. There are two silk stalls in East Ardougne market and we have provided you with a card with an inscription for each. Similar to the pie stalls, to steal these stalls efficiently, simply face the side of the stall facing the market and keep stealing. And if you are looking for extra money in doing so, you can sell the silk to the merchants.
Level 25-45 - Steal from Hosidius' Fruit Stand (40,000 XP/hr)
From level 25 to 45, steal fruit from the Hosidius Fruit Stand in Groot-Kourend. More specifically, the location is on the east side of Hosidius House, near the beach. To do this, however, you need 15% favor from House Hosidius, which is very easy to get. If you decide to store your stolen items in a bank, there is a bank to the west (behind the yard). Stay tuned until you reach level 45!
Level 45-55 – Blackjacking Bearded Bandits (80.000 EP/Std., 100.000 GP/Std.)
Finally we get to the nitty gritty of this OSRS thief guide. Get used to blackjacking, especially if you've chosen the fast track of stealing. From level 45 to 55, head to Pollnivneach to blackmail the bearded Pollnivnean bandits.
Essentially, to play Blackjack you must have a Blackjack (preferably a Maple Blackjack). Once you find a bearded bandit, knock him down with the blackjack, steal him while he's lying unconscious on the ground, and wait for him to get back up. If you have fast fingers, you can rob him twice on the ground for even more experience and gold.
However, if you are caught trying to blackmail the bandit, he will give you 4 HP. If you're hit, just keep trying to push them back and they'll eventually take out again. If you were too slow to take them down once, they will hit you and attack you. When that happens, just run away, recover and come back. And if you're in a house, you can just run up the stairs and wait a few seconds.
Our personal favorite place to blackmail all kinds of outlaws is Ali the Dyer's house, which is on the north side of Pollnivneach. The reason you would want to use this house is that it is extremely small with quick access to escape ladders.
If you run out of food and want to stay longer, there is a banknote exchange shop just west, we've given you the location on the map. Just trade him some familiar foods along with some coins and he will demo them for you so you can continue with the blackjack. If you don't want to bring food, Ali the bartender sells wines a little south for 1 gp each.
Just follow this method until age 55, and you'll have a few hundred thousand gold pieces too!
In this OSRS theft guide, you have two options to choose from. You can zoom through the entire skill, but do nothing important. Or you can go the other way and make tons of money with lower exp rates.
Fast
Level 55-65 - Beardless Blackjacking Bandits (140,000 XP/hr, 150,000 gp/hr)
Just like you blackmailed bearded bandits from level 45 to 55, we will do the same from level 55 to 65, but you blackmail bearded bandits instead. They are still in the same place and you will blackmail them using the same technique as before. To distinguish between bearded and bearded bandits (other than the obvious facial hair), look at their hand to see if they are carrying a weapon. All bearded bandits do not carry a scimitar, while beardless bandits carry a scimitar. The best part is that you get even more experience per hour and even more gold per hour!
Level 65-91 – Blackmail Menaphite Thug (230,000 XP/hr, 200,000 gp/hr)
And again we play blackjack from level 65 to 91. This time it's Menaphite Thugs. You'll find this level 55 on the south side of Pollnivneach and it's hard to miss! The blackjack technique is exactly the same as before. Except this time you get a lot more experience and gold! And according to player experiences, blackjack is much easier at about 77 steals, which is not far off.
Level 91-99 - Complete Pyramid Loot (250,000 XP/hour)
To complete your OSRS Thieving journey, complete the Pyramid Plunder minigame from level 91 to level 99. In this method, you will find yourself in the Jalsavrah pyramid in Sophanem, which is unlocked after starting the Icthlarins Little Helper quest . Otherwise, you can just use the Pharaoh's Scepter teleport function to go directly there. We also recommend completing the Contact! quest. for easy bank access next to the pyramid. If you Contact! haven't completed yet, your nearest bank is in Nardah, which is quite a climb when you need food or antidotes. For maximum efficiency, we recommend bringing slimming gear, as well as prayer potions, antidotes, food, coins, and stamina (or energy) potions.
And as an added incentive, there's a 1 in 1,000 chance of receiving a Pharaoh's Scepter, which is a highly sought after and valuable drop!
Unfortunately, we won't go into the details of Pyramid Plunder and the steps to complete it in this guide, as there's too much for an OSRS Thieving Guide to cover. However, if you get stuck trying to complete Pyramid Plunder, feel free to check out the detailed guide on the Runescape wiki page or browse YouTube.
Profitable
Level 55-71 – Ardougne Knights Pickpocket (105,000 XP/hr, 120,000 gp/hr)
To start the theft money making guide, steal the Knights of Ardougne in East Ardougne and earn some cash! To begin pickpocketing against these knights, first head to world 378, which is considered the unofficial "official" pickpocket world for the Knights of Ardougne. Hopefully, once you get there, you'll be joined by a host of players who will make your thieving journey much easier.
There are two places to steal Ardougne Knights: the southeast part of the market and the south bank. To steal the knights, all you have to do is click on them, open all 28 successful pickpockets your money bags and repeat the process!
Scroll through this guide to the very first method for a helpful tip on how to pickpocket efficiently.
Level 71-80 - Complete Pyramid Loot (130,000 XP/hour)
Scroll through this guide to the Quick section and follow these steps exactly. You won't get as much experience as normal, but you'll still make a lot of money!
Level 80-99 - Pickpocket Master Farmer (129,000 XP/hr, 1,394,000 gp/hr)
Well, to end the OSRS thieves guide, the money really rolls in when you pickpocket the master builders in the village of Draynor. These farmers will provide you with an exceptional amount of seeds, such as Rannars and Snapdragons! To get into the 1 million+ GM per hour range, we highly recommend having the Rouge outfit for it. If you also have a seed pod, that will be very useful. If your hit point level is low, make sure you bring some food (if you reached level 94 with the Rouge gear, don't worry about the food!).
Go to Draynor with your items and find Martin the Master Gardener as we indicated on the map. For best efficiency (skip this if you don't mind Martin running everywhere), wait until Martin is trapped in the pigsty. From here you can just pickpocket it and drop the worthless seeds! Again, scroll up to the very first method in this guide for a handy tip for pickpockets!
And there you have it - our OSRS Thief's Guide. You are now on your way to becoming a master thief in Old School Runescape! Good luck with your trip, let us know how it goes!
