This Olm strategy guide provides a detailed look at how to take on the Great Olm, the final boss of Chambers of Xerics.
This is a strategy guide and does not contain any information e.g. B. in preparation for the Olm battle. See our CoX guide (link below) for information on how to prepare.

Import Olm tile markers
To help position Olm, we'll mark the Magic Hand, Strike Hand, and Strike Thumb (for portals) tiles on either side of the room.
Here's an example of the highlighted tiles:
You don't have to manually mark tiles for Olm, you can import them into your Runelite!
Here's the code you'll need to import your Olm Tile Markers:
[{"regionId":12889,"regionX":37,"regionY":43,"z":0,"color":{"value":-1,"falpha":0}},{"regionId" :12889,"regionX":37,"regionY":45,"z":0,"color":{"value":-1,"falpha":0}},{"regionId":12889,"regionX ":28,"regionY":45,"z":0,"color":{"value":-1,"falpha":0}},{"regionId":12889,"regionX":28," regionY":43,"z":0,"color":{"value":-1,"falpha":0}},{"regionId":12889,"regionX":37,"regionY":38, "z":0,"color":{"value":-1,"falpha":0}},{"regionId":12889,"regionX":28,"regionY":38,"z":0 ,"color":{"value":-1,"falpha":0}},{"regionId":12889,"regionX":37,"regionY":41,"z":0,"color": {"value":-16777216,"falpha":0}},{"regionId":12889,"regionX":37,"regionY":50,"z":0,"color":{"value": -1,"falpha":0}},{"regionId":12889,"regionX":28,"regionY":47,"z":0,"color":{"value":-16777216,"falpha ":0}},{"regionId":12889,"regionX":28,"regionY":50,"z":0,"color":{"value":-1,"falpha":0}} ]
Copy this code and thenRight-click on your world map and select Import.

Assigned team roles for Olm battle
Everyone on your team is assigned one of three roles:
- magician hand
- batting hand
- runner
magician hand

This is considered the simplest role and only one person is assigned this role. As the Mage Hand, you start Olm by equipping your melee gear and performing a special attack on the melee hand before switching to your mage gear and retreating to the mage hand.
Your task is simple: damage the wizard's hand until it is destroyed. Then help with the melee hand.
Light Dragger Meta:When the Lightbearer is equipped, Mage Scrolls can trigger 2 specializations per stage. (Begin with a specialization as usual, and once the magician's hand is down, do another specialization.)
batting hand

The melee hand is considered the most difficult role and is only assigned to one player (ideally the one with the highest DPS gear/stat). As a melee hand, you damage the melee hand every phase.
Whenever the melee hand curls up and gets knocked out, switch to the magic gear and assist with the magic hand WITHOUT leaving your position with the ranged weapon.
Perform a special attack before switching to your Tentacle Lash/DHL.
Light Dragger Meta:If the Lightbearer is equipped, distribute 2 specializations at the start of each stage
runner

The remaining players take on the role of runners. These players have magical equipment and help by damaging the magic hand.
The runner's job is to stand in the center and move back and forth between each of Olm's basic attacks. This forces Olm to keep moving his head, as Olm always looks in the direction of the room with the most players.
Like the Mage Hand, Runners start Olm by performing a special attack on the melee hand before retreating to their running stance.
If the magician's hand dies, help with the batting hand.
Light Dragger Meta:When the Lightbearer is equipped, Runner reels can grant 2 Specs per level. (Begin with a specialization as usual, and once the magician's hand is down, do another specialization.)
Olm's Mechanics
scan room

Olm can only attack where he looks. He always faces the side of the room with the most players. That's why we assign roles to Olm, so runners can tip the scales and force Olm to constantly look in all directions.
By forcing Olm to watch, players assigned to Mage Hand and Melee Hand are not constantly hit by Olm's attack.
Olm phases
Olm has 4 phases.
- Phase One:Olm spawns on a random side of the room and your team should focus on destroying the mage and the melee hand
- phase two:identical to stage one
- Phase three:Destroy the mage and the melee hand at about the same time (you have a ten second time window), otherwise the hands will be completely healed
- Stage Four:head phase. Equip ranged combat and aim for Olm's head while dodging the falling crystals
Between the phases, crystals fall from the sky. These crystals deal AoE damage in a 3×3 area. Your landing zone is indicated by a shadow on the ground.
Olms attack
Olm has five different attacks:
- Automatic attacks
- Phase specific attacks
- special attacks
- Prayer Ball Attack
- Falling crystals
Olm's attack cycle
He will always attack in the following cycle:
- base attack
- Empty event
- base attack
- Special attack:Crystals
- base attack
- Special attack:relief
- base attack
- Empty event
- base attack
- Special attack:Portal
- To repeat
Basic attacks consist of his basic ranged and magic attacks, but can also be replaced with phase-specific attacks.
During the head phase, Olm does not use any of his special attacks, but AoE crystals fall from the ceiling and he continues to use all of his basic attacks (all phase-specific attacks + the standard ranged/magic attack).
stage strategies
Phase 1 and 2
Each scroll performs a special attack on the melee hand before taking position. DWH always has to come before BGS!
When the wizard's hand falls, runner roleInmagician hand rollFocus on the melee hand.
When the melee hand curls up,Melee Hand Scrolltargets the magician's hand, which uses a long reach without leaving the tile.
Meet at Melee Thumb during Portals' special attack.
phase 3
Each scroll casts BOTH special attacks on the melee hand and continues to damage the melee hand until the infinity symbol appears.
DO NOT hand strike when the icon appears as this will trigger a heal.
Only after the infinity symbol appears does everyone get to their assigned place.
batting handwill use the ranged mage's hand until the infinity symbol disappears, at which point they will start damaging the melee hand again.
Things get tricky at the end of this stageBoth hands should go down at about the same time.
Make sure you communicate with your team and don't kill a hand unless the other one is ready to go down too.
Stage 4: How to master the main stage
Equip your ranged gear and start attacking Olm's Head.
All roles must remain on their side so that the runners can continue to do their job and make the difference.
Since AoE crystals fall from the ceiling (the same crystals that appear between each stage), you must continuously move 2 tiles from where they land while also damaging Olm.
Final tips and words of encouragement
Olm is a tough boss to beat if you're new to raids and endgame boss activities. But he's far from the hardest boss in OSRS and it's possible to beat him without dying as long as you meet the status and equipment requirements (check ours).CoX guide).
Prepare to die on your first attempts, it's perfectly normal.
I expect you'll get the hang of phases 1 through 3 fairly quickly, but the main phase is by far the most chaotic and brutal phase of Olm combat.
If you keep dying during the main phase, consider filming yourself and find out what you're doing wrong. There may be mechanisms that you do not fully understand. If you suspect this is the case, come back to this article and read it again.
A common mistake I've seen students make is to panic and drink like there's no tomorrow and click spam without checking the target tile. That does not work. Get yourself together and don't panic. This will only make you make mistakes.
If you panic: concentrate on dodging the falling crystals and watch out for Olm's attacks. Once you've regained your composure, start hitting Olm again.
Good luck and get the 1kc T-Bow!
